WebJan 28, 2015 · I have a 1993 suburban K2500 4x4 with the stamped steel lower control arms with the riveted in ball joints. The shop wants $1000 to replace 4 ball joints and I have found through searching this is a gigantic pain to remove and replace. I would like to just buy an entire new replacement lower control arm but I can't find them. WebJan 18, 2024 · This is what the control arm looks like from under it. WebDec 27, 2024 · Lower control arms are not considered a wear part. Why do you want to replace them? You can replace the ball joints and bushings. If you are trying to swap from the stamped steel to forged, just get them on ebay, or a local salvage yard, and clean them up..... media blast or wire wheel, then paint and then replace the bushings and ball joints. The 4x4 trucks that utilize a stamped lower control arm is much different from the stamped arms on a 2WD. 4x4's use torsion bars instead of coil springs, and the upper arms on all 4x4 models are forged, regardless if 1500, 2500, or 3500. He'll need to use 4x4 parts. WebJan 29, 2024 · In looking at early 2000 model Sierras the lower control arms don't look nearly as beefy as the GMT400, even though the same control arm for a gasser Sierra is used on the Duramax. The shock mount appears to be in the same location and they still use torsion bars on the GMT800. Gotta think someone else had tried this by now though.
WebDec 4, 2024 · Why does no one seem to make a stamped or forged lower control arm for the K1500 trucks? I have 1994 K1500 Blazer. Ball joints and bushings are quite tired. I'd love to simply replace all four control arms. The idea of pressing new bushings and joints into the 23 year old, stamped, corroded, lowers is very unappealing.

The upper arm ball joint is riveted. I'm pretty sure the rivets are made of Kryptonite. You don't need to remove the A-arms.
