Duramax diesel turbo whistle
WebSep 23, 2024 · My recently acquired '17 DMax with 38k on it has a rather loud turbo whistle when accelerating in town. Once about ~50mph, the noise is much less prevalent. It doesn't sound like my previous turbo vehicles (Subaru/VW), although they were all gas), it's a much higher pitched whistle instead of a woosh sound, if that makes sense. WebMar 24, 2024 · It actually sounded like it originated from the passenger side under the dash. The sound was more like a power steering pump low on fluid or beginning to fail, but the power steering pump is on the driver side. I checked the reservoir, but it was at the correct level. My second thought was an alternator bearing, or possible an idler pulley.

WebDec 24, 2008 · Yes you will definitely notice more noise with a cold air intake. As mentioned above get the AFE stage 2 or do a Tymar, these will increase the noise the most, then remove your foil wrap around the IC tube and gain alittle more whistle, not to mention it looks better also. WebOct 21, 2024 · It eventually got to where the sound would be constant, so we took it in to the dealer who said it was a sheared bolt on the exhaust manifold. 140k miles, warranty is kaput, $75 in parts for new bolts and gasket (s), had to apparently yank the cab off to fix it, $1600. Got them talked down to $1k though. A couple of weeks go by, sound came back.
