WebOct 9, 2024 · This holy well is in a field to the west of Cratloe Road, 500 metres north-west of Cratloe Tower House. It lies on a path descending from the field. The well is a spring from which there is a slow but active stream. Work was carried out on the flow of the well in the summer of 2024 and it is now renewed and strong, giving fresh pure water from below.

WebJohn Hargrove (1848-1936) was born in Kilkishen and married a woman from Cratloe. He was a stone mason by trade and was responsible for building the schoolmaster’s house at Walsh’s cross and Kilmurry NS. Towards the end of his life, Hargrove supervised the building of the boundary wall around the grotto in Cratloe.
